Terms of Service

Last updated: May 2025 · Effective immediately upon account creation

By creating an Ori account you agree to these terms. They are written in plain English because we think you deserve to understand what you are agreeing to. Ori is free to use. We sustain ourselves through Discoveries — personalised suggestions based entirely on your own data. We never sell your data to anyone.

1. What Ori is

Ori is a personal data search and discovery platform. It allows you to upload data exports from third party platforms — including Spotify, Google, Facebook and Instagram — and search, explore and discover insights about your own personal history.

Ori is free to use. It is operated by Clinton Hazel Jr, based in Australia. References to Ori, we, us and our refer to this service and its operator.

Ori is sustained commercially by its Discoveries feature — personalised recommendations in music and places categories, generated from your own data. Discoveries are never traditional advertising and your data is never shared with or sold to any third party. See Section 5 for full details.

2. Your account

Creating an account

To use Ori you must create an account with a valid email address and password. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account you represent that the information you provide is accurate.

Keeping your account secure

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password with anyone. If you believe your account has been compromised contact us immediately at support@ori.app.

Account termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us at support@ori.app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or are used for fraudulent purposes. We will provide reasonable notice before termination where possible.

3. Your data

You own your data. Ori does not claim any ownership over the personal data you upload. We are a service that processes your data on your behalf. We never sell it, never share it with third parties, and never use it for purposes beyond delivering your Ori experience.

Data you upload

When you upload personal data exports to Ori you grant us a limited licence to process, store and analyse that data solely for the purpose of providing the Ori service to you — including your feed, search, insights and Discoveries. This licence terminates when you delete the data or close your account.

Data from third party platforms

Ori processes data that you export from third party platforms including Spotify, Google, Facebook and Instagram. By uploading this data you confirm that you are the account holder for those platforms and that you are using their official data export mechanisms. Ori is not affiliated with any of these platforms.

AI processing

Ori uses the Anthropic Claude AI API to generate insights, search responses, feed content and Discoveries from your data. By using Ori you consent to relevant portions of your data being sent to the Anthropic API for this processing. We send only the minimum data required. Anthropic's usage policies govern their handling of API data.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use Ori only for lawful personal purposes. You must not:

5. Discoveries — how Ori works commercially

Ori is free because of Discoveries. Discoveries are personalised suggestions in music and places categories generated entirely from your own data. No third party ever receives your data. No advertiser targets you. Ori generates suggestions internally based on what your data reveals about your genuine interests.

What Discoveries are

Discoveries are personalised recommendations that appear in your Ori feed. They are generated by analysing your uploaded data to identify genuine interests — music you listen to, places you visit, things you search for — and surfacing relevant suggestions in those categories.

For example if your Spotify data shows you have listened to a particular artist many times, Ori may generate a Discovery about that artist's new work or a concert in your area. If your Google data shows you visit a particular style of restaurant regularly, Ori may surface a Discovery about a similar venue.

What Discoveries are not

Discoveries are not traditional advertising. No external advertiser is involved in generating them. No company pays to target you specifically. No third party receives any information about you or your interests. Ori generates Discoveries internally — the process is entirely contained within Ori.

Discoveries are always clearly labelled

Every Discovery in your feed is clearly identified as a Discovery and explains why it was suggested — for example Based on your listening history. You will always know when you are seeing a Discovery versus a personal memory or insight.

Sensitive categories

Ori will never use sensitive personal data to generate Discoveries. This includes anything related to health, medical conditions, relationships, mental health, religion, political beliefs, or financial situation. Discoveries are strictly limited to positive interest signals in music and places categories.

Your control

You can dismiss any Discovery you do not find relevant. We are working on controls that will let you manage your Discoveries preferences at any time.

6. Free service

Ori is currently free to use. We reserve the right to introduce paid features or tiers in the future. If we do we will provide reasonable advance notice and existing users will always retain access to the core features they currently use. Any changes to pricing will never be applied retroactively.

7. Australian Consumer Law

Our services come with consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude, restrict or modify those rights.

8. Intellectual property

The Ori name, logo, interface design and software are owned by Clinton Hazel Jr and are protected by intellectual property laws. You retain full ownership of any personal data you upload to Ori. We do not claim intellectual property rights over your personal data.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, Ori and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. This limitation does not apply where liability cannot be limited under Australian Consumer Law.

10. Service availability

We aim to keep Ori available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance or experience technical issues that temporarily affect availability. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue features at any time with reasonable notice where possible.

11. Privacy

Your use of Ori is also governed by our Privacy Policy available at ori.app/privacy.html. By using Ori you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by displaying a notice in the Ori app at least 14 days before changes take effect. Your continued use of Ori after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
